Chefs Share Their Top Mom-Inspired Dishes for Mother’s Day

Food memories and mom memories often go hand in hand. For culinary professionals, in particular, many developed their passion for cooking while watching their mothers or the maternal figures in their lives as they prepared family meals. In honor of Mother’s Day, we asked some top chefs to share their mom-inspired dishes that are edible homages to the women who helped raise them.

 

Pan-Seared Scallops at Del Frisco’s Grille, Dallas, Texas
Executive chef Shawn Quinn recalled the first night he tasted scallops simply prepared by his mother with butter, thyme, and salt as he created the Grille’s newly added pan-seared scallops dish. “Growing up in Colorado and Florida, there was always vibrant food in our house and I constantly found myself in the kitchen watching my mom make magic. Ever since I fell in love with bay scallops and their sweetness, I’ve always wanted to create a dish that was inspired by my mother’s cooking and her Italian heritage so I topped pan-seared scallops with blistered tomato chermoula and pine nut gremolata and laid them on a bed of creamy goat cheese polenta to create this beautiful homage to mom. I think I made her proud.” We think so, too, chef Shawn!
